Hybrid Rental Cars

Hybrid Rental CarHertz and Avis are adding hybrid rental cars to their fleet “this month” according to USA today.

I think the concept of hybrid rental cars is absolutely fabulous. First, it will make it just that much more efficient to rent a car. No doubt they will cost a little more to rent, but the reduced fuel consumption could pay for that over a long trip.

One thing that does linger in my mind though, is the eco-friendlyness of this in a large scale. Hybrids have batteries that are produced which aren’t the most friendly for environmental impact long term. Are we just trading one evil for another one?

What do you think about hybrid rental cars - will you rent one?
